Aerial and Groundside Improvements
In 1999, the Airports Authority of Jamaica hired EDM-Cansult to design and construct a new terminal at Norman Manley Airport. This project included building a departure hall with improved arrivals area as well as supporting airside infrastructure.
The project involved upgrading air traffic control and navigational equipment at each of the airport's four control towers; installing new sewage treatment facilities and solid waste incinerators; as well as refurbishing its airfield lighting system.
As of 2010, Norman Manley International Airport is in Phase IB of a redevelopment plan which will see it transformed into a modern facility with new departure and arrivals terminals, airfield improvements and upgraded landside facilities - at an estimated total cost of $23m.
