Fairbanks International Airport
Fairbanks International Airport, situated three miles southwest of Fairbanks city center in Alaska's North Star Borough and serving passengers, freight, and commercial traffic, also provides tourists and visitors to Denali National Park access as well as being an essential logistic hub in sparsely populated Northern Alaska (which covers an area twice larger than California).
Fairbanks International Airport underwent a major terminal expansion project in 2009, adding a modern terminal building designed with earthquake safety standards in mind. This project created space for a larger passenger terminal and expanded baggage handling system to meet increased passenger traffic, and was completed just in time for summer tourist season, providing an improved and functional airport environment. Modern and functional design features combine seamlessly with its surroundings. A renovated terminal building can handle regional, domestic, and international air carriers; with seven jet gates providing access to Denali National Park and other areas in central Alaska.
