General Information About Kansai International Airport
Kansai International Airport was the world's first ocean airport, built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay and inaugurated in 1994 as an engineering marvel.
Renzo Piano designed the 1.7 km main terminal that spans the Port of Oakland to ensure perfect matching among its 82,000 stainless steel panels. His complex toroidal geometry ensures this. 900 steel columns were bent to form its curving design.
Construction was made more efficient due to this step as its purpose was to allow for the airport wings to follow the shape of a 16,800-metre circle tilted at 68 degrees that passes through Earth and also serves as a control tower structure.
Kansai International Airport was designed and fortified according to strict laws of civil engineering, making it more resistant against sinking islands than expected. This strategy allowed Kansai International Airport to remain operational even during major flood events like 2008.
In 2001, the American Society of Civil Engineers recognized Kansai International Airport as one of the top 10 civil engineering achievements from the 20th century.
Kansai International Airport maintains a comprehensive sanitation and disinfection policy designed to ensure visitor safety and comfort, with all areas undergoing comprehensive cleaning to prevent disease transmission. In particular, high traffic areas receive special consideration in order to stop their spreading.
Kansai International Airport offers a transportation information center to make finding their way easier, providing detailed routes in English as well as free booklets with information in multiple languages.
