This airport was founded and named for Juana Azurduy de Padilla, the 19th century guerrilla military leader, as the inaugural facility in Bolivia. Situated near Sucre in Sucre province and used as a base by the Bolivian Air Force.
Sucre is the capital of Bolivia and serves as an industrial center, boasting approximately 1.2 million residents in its south-central location.
