General Information About Kuwait International Airport
Situated 16km south of Kuwait City's center, Kuwait International Airport serves as its primary gateway and serves as hubs for both Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways. Furthermore, this location hosts both Kuwait Air Force headquarters as well as Al Mubarak Air Base.
Airport officials have recently undertaken an ambitious expansion and modernisation project, including constructing a brand new terminal building (Phase II) by 2024. Terminal 2 will be located south of Terminal 1, providing another modern option.
Terminal 1 at Kuwait Airport was designed by Kenzo Tange and opened for operations in 2018. Featuring a trifoil plan that covers an expanse of 1.2km, three symmetrical wings of departure gates connect through a central canopy whose facades draw inspiration from traditional dhow sailing boats.
This design responds to the climate of its region, which features dry desert conditions with summer temperatures exceeding 40oC. Glazed openings were constructed to filter sunlight and reduce direct solar radiation.
Parking: Short-term and long-term car parks are nearby the terminal, while valet parking services may be offered for an extra fee.
Transport: Taxis provide an efficient and quick means of reaching the center of Kuwait City from the airport, and can be booked through its information desk. An express bus service also links several locations within its network within Kuwait City's center.
