General Information About Nelson Mandela International Airport
Nelson Mandela International Airport serves the Cape Verdean capital Praia and first opened for operations in October 2005 before receiving its current name in January 2012 in honor of South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela.
GVNP Airport in Cape Verde is the largest by square mile. As the hub of four regional airports serving its ten islands, this major hub plays a central role in providing services.
As well as being home to Cape Verde's largest business park and possibly Europe's biggest one, Boa Vista hosts one of Cape Verde's premier tourist spots and an important contributor to GDP and tourist numbers on the island. It draws both experienced travellers as well as those new to Cape Verde alike.
At the airport there are also world-class golf courses. Some have been open for some time while others remain under development - the most impressive of which is an 18 hole multi-course golf course built by Australian company Glidewell inside a former RAF base.
There are also a number of small businesses located here; some have been open for over 100 years! Aside from golf, walking or taking a tuk tuk ride are both the best ways to explore this part of town.
