Situated eight kilometres south-east from Wellington city centre in Rongotai suburb, it is the second busiest and largest airport in New Zealand. Owned and managed by Infratil Limited of Australia with support from Wellington City Council; serving as hub for both Air New Zealand and Sounds Air services.
