How to Get From Cape Town International Airport to Cape Town Center

Cape Town Airport is approximately 11 miles (18km), or 30 minutes by car, away from Cape Town city center and can be reached in approximately 30 minutes using taxi services from there. A ride typically costs ZAR 150-ZAR 250 depending on time and number of passengers - with up to 50% surcharges added during night hours.

Transport from the airport to the city center may include shared taxis, Rikkis and Uber as well as private services like hotel transfers. Unfortunately all these options can be expensive while some drivers may not always be reliable.

Rikkis are an economical form of public transport in Cape Town and are the go-to option for hourly or fixed fee rentals. Booking can typically be done through hotel reception or tourist information offices and please keep in mind they don't travel a set route, thus delaying arrival at destination.

Licensed minibusses operate within the city center and can be hired on an hourly or fixed-fee basis for travel between locations. While they offer more cost-effective alternatives than Uber, their reliability can be unpredictable as there are no timetables or maps.
