Devonport Airport serves the South West of England from its location five miles to the east of Exeter on A30 and features several domestic and international airlines, including Aer Lingus, Aurigny Blue Islands Isles of Scilly Skybus Loganair Ryanair among others.

History The current airport was first developed during 1937 as a grass field airstrip for use by a local flying club, opening to public use as early as 1938. Throughout World War 2, it served as an important military and civilian base, before eventually falling under full Devon County Council management in 1974.

During the 1980s, a new terminal and runway extension were constructed.

Devonport boasts several small breweries, sawmill and bonded warehouse, in addition to being an active provider of supplies to ships. Furthermore, there is a large co-operative society specialising in coal importation and supply.

There are numerous churches throughout the town. Of these, the Baptist, Congregational, and Bible Christian chapels each hold approximately 500 sittings; additionally there is also Christ Church built at Duke Street costing PS2,000 that serves the Unitarian congregation; Wesleyan Methodist church has 800 seats available to it.
