General Information About Dillingham Airport
Dillingham Airport in Mokuleia on Oahu's North Shore is one of Oahu's busiest airports, serving as a departure point for skydiving and glider tours, transporting planeloads of tourists aloft while towing large sightseeing gliders or smaller ultralight aircraft.
Airfield 134 is a public and military use airport spanning 134 acres (0.5 sq. km), which has been leased from the US Army under a 25-year contract and provides one 5,000 foot runway that is used for glider and skydiving operations.
At this joint-use facility, the Army takes priority for night vision training on airborne and helicopter platforms, but private users such as parachuting sports clubs and general aviation also use it.
As part of an Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities initiated project, a Runway Safety Area Practicability Study is currently being undertaken at Dillingham Airport to update both its Master Plan and Layout Plan.
Dillingham Airfield's Integrated Airport Master Plan is a comprehensive document that addresses airport planning, design and construction to ensure safe operation for all users. This plan serves as the primary reference document for Alaska Department of Transportation Airports Division as well as any other agencies responsible for operating or maintaining Dillingham Airfield.
Project work included upgrading airport access roads, paving the blast pad and expanding runway safety areas (RSAs). Crews placed over 200,000 square yards of geotextile reinforced with geogrid before filling over swampy peat-laden ground that had built up over time.
