General Information About Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport
Whitehorse's airport was officially renamed in honour of former Yukon Member of Parliament Erik Nielsen on December 15th 2008. It serves Whitehorse, capital city and largest city of Canada's Yukon Territory.
This airport serves as a major base for water bombing aircraft used for forest firefighting operations and as an important hub for many commercial airlines such as Air North, Westjet (seasonal), and Condor.
At the terminal and departures lounges of Yukon Airports are showcased an expansive collection of Yukon artwork. Carved works by emerging artists are featured as part of the Northern Cultural Expressions Society program; Ted Harrison's full-size reproduction of "The Departure of Persephone" hangs prominently in the main terminal waiting area.
In October 1998, runway 13R at San Antonio International Airport was extended by 340m as part of an extension project involving upgrading of concrete turn buttons, installing sanitary and storm mains as well as lighting upgrades.
