Fukuoka Airport - General Information

Fukuoka Airport serves as the primary international gateway to Fukuoka City on Kyushu Island in Japan and ranks fourth busiest by passenger traffic in terms of total passenger numbers annually. Furthermore, this hub airport connects flights bound for western Japan.

At this airport there are two terminals: Domestic and International. Both terminals can be reached using a free shuttle service.

Monday to Friday from approximately 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, shuttle buses run between the Domestic and International terminals from approximately 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, as well as expressway buses which offer transport directly into Fukuoka City center or its surroundings.

Travel from the airport to Tenjin city centre (via bus or taxi) is straightforward and takes less than 15 minutes. Buses run frequently between these locations, although you could also opt for an even faster journey via taxi service.

Muslim travellers will find prayer facilities at the international terminal that include a small prayer room with an ablution facility to cleanse before praying, as well as restrooms to meet any toileting needs in the terminal.

With Air Asia now operating in Asia, more flights between Fukuoka and other cities across Asia are now available from Fukuoka International Airport. In addition, other airlines such as Air France, ANA, and Korean Air also service Fukuoka regularly.

How to Get From Fukuoka Airport to Fukuoka Center

Fukuoka offers numerous forms of public transport for visitors looking to traverse its cityscape, from local and international buses, as well as an efficient subway system.

Nishitetsu provides bus services between Fukuoka Airport and Hakata Station, Tenjin Station, Ohashi and Dazaifu - these buses can operate between 7:30 am to 21:00 depending on their destination.

Finding Your Way From FUK to Downtown by Bus Bus travel between FUK airport and the center is the cheapest method, costing Y=260 one way with approximately 30 minutes required to arrive Downtown via the shuttle bus transfer service.

As there are no ATMs within the airport, it is advisable to have some cash handy prior to your trip. Bus stops can be found all across the airport and all accept IC cards. However, due to travel time it would be beneficial if some money were available as there may be additional expenses such as parking costs.

Option two is purchasing a one-journey airport subway ticket (Y=260) which covers Fukuoka Airport and Hakata stations, such as vending machines in the airport or one of the information desks located within domestic terminal buildings. This ticket may only be purchased once.

For ease of navigation of the subway system, we advise purchasing either a 1-Day or 2-Day pass. These passes provide cost savings as they allow riders to avoid purchasing tickets each time they take the train.

Fukuoka's subways are efficient and fast, providing quick transportation between the airport and hotel without worry over traffic or accessing popular attractions like Uminonakamichi Seaside Park or Momochi Seaside Park.

Prepaid cards like Suica or Pasmo allow you to board trains quickly, while providing additional discounts if you take more than one ride to cover the costs associated with your ticket.

Another popular mode of travel from Fukuoka Airport is by private taxi. Not only is this an efficient way to reach Fukuoka city center quickly, but you're guaranteed your driver will assist with carrying any bags you might have with them!

Both Domestic and International Terminals offer a selection of amenities and services, such as banking services, currency exchange offices, prayer rooms, shopping facilities, lost and found services, massage chairs and spa services.

Airport WiFi/Internet - Fukuoka Airport provides eleven locations where visitors can use designated computer workstations and kiosks to gain access to the internet for a fee.

Banking - Bank of Fukuoka operates full service branches at both Domestic Terminal South B1F and International Terminal 2F of Narita Airport, along with Nishi-Nippon City Bank and Edy electronic money changers for convenient banking service.

Lounges at Fukuoka Airport - Fukuoka Airport offers three airport lounges: JAL Diamond and Sakura Lounges are located within Domestic Terminal South while an ANA Lounge can be found within International Terminal 3F. Both lounges can be utilized by KAL First Class passengers as well as JMB Diamond members; with JGC Premier members accessing only JGC Premier lounge.

Private Transfers - To arrange a private transfer from Fukuoka Airport to your accommodation (*within the "092" area code) in Fukuoka city, choose from one of several vehicles suitable for the size and composition of your group. Or ask your hotel reception to book it on your behalf.

Local Transport - Trains and buses connect the domestic terminal to the main city centre, while buses leave both terminals to reach popular destinations like Kumamoto, Nagasaki and Beppu.

Taxis - To reach central Fukuoka by taxi will cost approximately 1500 yen and take around 15 minutes. A free shuttle bus runs between Fukuoka International Terminal and Hakata Station from where passengers can access both terminals.
