Lloydminster Airport is Canada's only bi-provincial airport and lies in both Alberta and Saskatchewan; most of its population resides on Alberta side.

One of the main differences is that the city follows Mountain Standard Time (UTC-07:00) during winter and Central Standard Time (UTC-05:00) in summer due to being sandwiched between two provinces that employ different time zones and sales tax structures but both employ daylight savings time in an equal manner.

A monument located in the city's downtown core recognizes this special status of Meridian Avenue - its main north-south axis - as the spot where stores, businesses and the post office were first found along its length. This monument commemorates this important date. Consisting of four 100-foot survey markers installed in 1994 at this spot where Meridian Avenue first began housing stores, businesses and the post office, this monument stands as a constant reminder to our history and future generations of city living there.

Lloydminster was established as an exclusively British utopian settlement centered around sobriety in 1903. It was named for George Lloyd, an Anglican bishop renowned among Barr Colonists who came to Canada from Britain during its founding period in 1903. Lloydminster was intended as a temperate society; alcohol wasn't available during its initial days of existence.
