General Information | Rochford Airport was initially constructed as a military airfield during World War One for use by the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). Later during World War Two it became RAF Rochford as part of the Air Ministry and housed fighter squadrons.
Today London Southend Airport is run as a municipal airport by the Stobart Group who have invested significantly in upgrading and improving the air field, building a new control tower and train station as well as winning multiple awards including European Regions Airline Association's Airport Achievement Award of 2010/2011 and being recognised as an "IATA London Airport" status by IATA in August 2012.
