General Information About Merced Regional Airport
The City of Merced owns and operates a public use airport known as Merced Regional Airport (IATA: MCE). It's located two miles southwest of Merced in Merced County.
During World War II, the Army selected land near Childs Avenue as a basic pilot training facility. Subsequently, the City of Merced acquired this land and renamed it "New Merced Municipal Airport".
In 1943, New Merced Municipal Airport was leased to the United States Army Air Force as a sixth axillary field for Merced Army Airfield (now Castle Airport). This lease would last until 1945.
Today the airport serves primarily general aviation with two runways (6/24 and 12/30, each 4000' by 150' long).
As a non-towered Class C facility, its operations are administered by an expert team of airport engineers and technicians dedicated to providing superior passenger service.
There is an array of facilities available to aircraft owners and operators, such as the Gateway Air Center's private jet terminal and hangar BBQ restaurant and bar. These services make for an attractive stop for those travelling in and out of Central Valley region by air.
Riggs Air, a non-profit air ambulance organization based out of Merced Regional Airport and Mercy Medical Center Merced, provides air ambulance transportation between Mercy Merced and trauma centers around the region. Additionally, this airport also hosts commercial and cargo flights.
