Nuuk Airport - General Information
Nuuk Airport (GOH), is an international airport servicing Godthaab/Nuuk, Greenland's largest city. Located on its southwestern coastline near Davis Strait near Nuup Kangerlua Inlet.
This airport is situated in a mountainous region, limiting runway space available. Unfortunately, its single 968m runway cannot accommodate larger aircraft such as Airbus A380 or Boeing 747.
Nuuk Airport in Denmark does not currently receive direct flights from Denmark; however, Icelandair and Air Greenland provide limited direct service through Bombardier regional propeller planes from Reykjavik in summer months.
Qaqortoq Regional Airport, currently under construction nearby, aims to serve both Nuuk and Ilulissat by being their main airport, eliminating passenger transfer between planes when flying into either town; however, due to limited runway capacity for larger aircraft this project will need expansion to serve this goal effectively.
Nuuk Airport currently hosts several airlines that operate from Nuuk; Air Greenland and Icelandair operate, the latter flying to Kangerlussuaq.
Air Greenland currently operates a fleet of Bombardier Dash 8 200 turboprops at Nuuk Airport while Icelandair plans on taking delivery of one A330neo this year. Both airlines plan on increasing European service as well as adding North American routes once both new runways have been constructed.
