General Information About Penticton Regional Airport

Situated 1.8 nautical miles (3.3 km; 2.1 mi) southwest of Penticton city center, Penticton Regional Airport serves the South Okanagan, Similkameen and West Kootenay regions and is owned and managed by Transport Canada.

Scheduled services between Vancouver and Calgary provided by Canadian regional carriers include Air Canada Express, Pacific Coastal Airlines and WestJet Encore. In 2016, expansion took place and further upgrades are planned for 2021.

Facilities at the airport include a restaurant, car rentals, weather office, forestry air tanker base and helicopter base, as well as radio navigation aid and Canada Customs facilities on-site.

This airport was originally established as a military airfield during World War II, before becoming open for public use after approval in 1945. By 1956, they received permanent permission and received a 6,000 by 148 ft (1,829 by 45m) runway oriented 16-34.

History of Penticton Regional Airport

Examinations for what would become Penticton Regional Airport started in 1937 at two sites near Skaha Lake west and north of Penticton city limits, on land which had belonged to an Indian band at that time.

Trans-Canada Air Lines and Canadian Pacific Air Lines began flying out to this airport as early as 1945, providing service until 1988. Today, Air Canada Express offers three daily flights between this airport and Vancouver International and Calgary International airports.
