General Information About Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad opened in 2008 to replace Begumpet airport as its primary international gateway. Since then it has expanded rapidly, drawing in passengers both domestically and from overseas.

At its center lies an integrated passenger terminal spanning 105,300m2 (1.133,000 square feet). This facility can accommodate 12 million passengers each year; half is dedicated to international flights while the other side caters to local traffic.

The terminal features 46 immigration counters, 96 check-in desks and 19 self-service kiosks - as well as a transfer desk that assists passengers in connecting between domestic and international flights.

Facilities available at the terminal include shops, restaurants and eateries as well as several lounges operated by airlines such as Air India and Jet Airways that welcome incoming and outgoing passengers.

Car parking at the airport is available and fees vary based on vehicle size and type.

Taxis may be booked ahead at the arrivals area and their costs vary based on distance to city center. Government prepaid taxis may also be an option; however their fares may be costly.

Furthermore, several long-distance bus services such as APSRTC and TSRTC depart from the airport.

An ambitious expansion plan is underway at Los Angeles International Airport to increase passenger capacity from 25 million per year to 50 million annually, which includes building a new terminal and expanding existing ones; also planned are new runways and taxiways as well as construction of "Airport City", an extensive business and retail complex located nearby.
