General Information About Surkhet Airport

Surkhet Airport, Nepal is situated in Birendranagar Municipality within Surkhet District in midwestern Nepal. As a domestic airport serving Jumla, Humla, Kalikot Mugu and Dolpa areas it provides a unique gateway for domestic passengers travelling between them.

Air Port Airport of Nepal serves most remote sectors in Western Nepal and serves as the gateway to Karnali region. This facility plays a key role in transporting food grains, clothes, medicines, iodine-mixed salt, construction materials and school equipment as well as other commercial goods.

The airport currently boasts a runway length of 1250 meter which can accommodate aircraft up to 42 seater aircrafts, but an expansion project is planned so it can accommodate larger planes like 72 seater ATR aircrafts. Unfortunately, its existing runway may not be sufficient enough to support such large planes so an extension will require roughly five bighas of land for expansion.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) recently granted regular flights between Surkhet Airport and Kathmandu, expected to promote tourism. Buddha Air's ATR-72 airplane conducted its test flight on November 16, 2017, with regular services anticipated starting today according to CAAN Spokesperson Jagannath Niraula.
