General Information About Tokunoshima Airport
Tokunoshima Airport, situated in Amagi on Tokunoshima island, is one of two largest airports on the Amami Islands - second only to Amami Oshima - and 15th largest overall in Japan.
Kagoshima City is part of Kagoshima Prefecture and can be reached by air travel to Okinawa and other parts of Japan, acting as a hub for several Japanese airlines.
Island of Yonaguni has a population of roughly 16,000 residents and features an amalgam of Japanese and Ryukyuan cultures, most prominently togyu bullfighting which involves human coaches encouraging two bulls with locked horns to push each other out of a ring.
Historic sites on the island include production sites for Kamui ware. A Ryukyuan language known as simaguci or shimaguchi is still spoken there today, though standard Japanese is now more frequently heard spoken there.
