General Information About Turbat International Airport
General information Beginning as a modest facility in the 1970s, Balochistan Airport has since grown into one of its busiest in Balochistan. Serving both local and regional traffic with over 90 flights each month - both scheduled and non-scheduled flights alike.
Turbat International Airport stands out among larger airports by having an apron area large enough to accommodate large aircraft. As its main runway may not be long enough, Turbat provides an expansive apron space.
In 2009, local government and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) unveiled plans to upgrade the airport in accordance with international standards with new lounges, control tower and expanded apron space.
As part of these upgrades, a stunning arrivals and departures lounge was inaugurated in December 2012; other notable features include 91 meters by 69 meters of flexible and rigid pavement made from bitumen as well as nose-in parking for two narrow-bodied aircraft like ATR/F-27 simultaneously.
This airport boasts an outstanding infrastructure that is capable of handling all major air carriers, an expansive car park and is linked directly with a bus terminal via shuttle buses.
The airport faces many disadvantages, the main one being its inadequate maintenance facilities and expensive fueling prices for aircraft based there. Nonetheless, given the advent of inexpensive air travel and rising global demand for flights originating at this airport, efforts are being taken to stay competitive in meeting those demands.
