Knox County Regional Airport

The Knox County Regional Airport (airport code TYS) is situated five miles southwest of Knoxville on two thousand acres and services eight airlines.

At Knoxville Airport, travelers have their choice of several hotels for overnight accommodations - Hilton Knoxville Airport and Candlewood Suites are among them - which provide travelers with accommodation near the airport. Furthermore, shared vans can help travelers move around more efficiently while saving money on transportation.

Facilities: The airport boasts one paved runway, Runway 16-34, as well as a parallel taxiway. The paved runway measures 3,200 feet in length and 75 feet wide to accommodate small single engine piston aircraft as well as small jets like Cessna Citations.

Aircraft: At present, there are 62 aircraft currently based at the airport; 94% of which are single-engine planes. These include skydiving planes and charter flights for skydiving activities as well as smaller multi-engine planes used specifically for skydiving activities as well as some larger corporate aircraft.

Current Use: The airport currently caters to a diverse market, with 71% of operations conducted locally and 28% itinerant - this ratio is expected to grow over time.

Tenants: The airport hosts various tenants, such as aviation maintenance facilities, flight instruction businesses, two flying clubs and an established skydiving operation. Furthermore, non-aviation entities such as solar power companies and graphic design firms also lease space at the airport.

Development: The airport is in the process of updating its Airport Master Plan. Following its recommendations, improvements resulting from this update include installing a security fence along Millers Falls Road and expanding the runway by 200 feet on either end; totalling 3,200 feet overall.
