General Details about Yakushima Airport Its Yakushima Airport is situated on the island of Yakushima in Yakushima Town, Kumage District of Kagoshima Prefecture and first opened for operations on December 16, 1963 with an initial 1,100 meter runway; later extended to 1,200 meters then 1500 meters by 1976.
